Chunni

2017

In South Asian culture, the chunni is an essential item of traditional dress.

Specifically, in Sikh culture, the chunni has been as essential to woman as the dastaar (turban) has been to men. Historically, women in the Punjab region have always worn this garment and covered their head as a sign of respect and modesty.

This work consists of 83 chunnia belonging to Navi, her Mum and her Budimom.
